Social problem-solving involves children's ability to interpret social cues and the feelings of others as they consider ways to reach their own goals. Children develop effective problem-solving strategies to deal with conflicts as they arise in the classroom.

The steps in social problem-solving:

  1. Notice the social situation, identify feelings and define problem.
  2. Generate various solutions.
  3. Agree upon the solution.  Negotiate as necessary.
  4. Implement the solution effectively.
  5. Evaluate the outcome of the solution.
