Teachers support children's natural interest in numbers by providing a variety of materials that encourage counting and are easy for children to count. 

 

Teachers encourage children to use counting and comparing quantities as a way to solve problems, and observe and ask questions as they work with various materials to discover how they are thinking informally about quantity or numerical operations.
