Language manipulationELS strand indicators

The language manipulation strand focuses on children's experimentation with language sounds.

At first, a child may not engage in language play but can respond to the beat in songs, chants or rhymes by moving or clapping.

Children progress to engaging more with chants, rhymes and alliterative play by repeating what they hear. Later, they begin to create their own rhymes and alliteration, often with nonsense words.
