Assessing English Language Learners

If teachers in the classroom do not speak the home language of the child, they should seek support from family members, teaching assistants or other school personnel.

Special populations

The ELS can be used effectively to assess the development of special populations. It can be the best method of assessing instructional needs of children with special needs because it measures children's abilities in context and over time.

The ELS also provides excellent information for developing individualized learning goals.
